<p>Simply putting the tapes into a tape player risks potential damage.</p>
<p>and yet&#8230;</p>
<p>A digital &#8216;press-button&#8217; archive is boring and unsuitable &#8211; and the sanitisied digital files seperation the end user from the original concept and labour involved in re-assembling tapes.</p>
<p>At the time I had the feeling that what was needed was:</p>
<ul>
<li>New &#8216;device&#8217; &#8211; instrument &#8211; <strong>TANGIBILITY</strong></li>
<li>sound has been detached &#8211; needs hands-on care to make audible again</li>
<li>facility for random access &#8211; database? &#8211; mixin and new interpretation ov these samples&#8230;</li>
